My First Networking Event

During the week, I took part in my first networking event while undertaking my internship in investment banking. It involved attending a presentation by officials of F88, a company based in Vietnam that gives secured loans among other financial services. My supervisor required me to take proper notes during the presentation, and therefore, I had to observe the nature of F88’s business model, profitability, future growth strategy, and challenges.

Prior to this event, I had never had an opportunity to participate in such professional occasions. One thing that impressed me was how professionals dress on such occasions. Simply observing how bankers, financiers, and representatives of different companies dressed during the occasion made me realize that appearance and first impressions matter a lot in finance.

While participating in the event, I got the opportunity to meet different professionals from the field of finance. Despite the fact that I was younger and had little experience in comparison to other participants, I liked to introduce myself and learn about the people’s careers. During the event, I also had a chance to see how the business people start talking, trade their contacts, and ask intelligent questions. It made networking seem easier and more manageable, making me understand that it is a matter of establishing connections and expressing genuine interest in other people’s occupations.

Taking down notes during the F88 speech was also a great experience. I have to listen attentively to the speaker, realize what he or she was saying, and decide upon the most significant information for my boss. Instead of remembering everything, I tried to notice the most important points, which helped me to be more organized and improve my note-taking skills and my understanding of how finance professionals evaluated the company.

Overall, the F88 presentation served as the first networking attempt I ever tried. I have learned about the corporation, practiced my professional communication skills, and I feel much more confident in the business world.
